What's THE BEST Oregon Coast Town? [How To Find It]

Are you thinking of moving to, relocating to, or buying a vacation home at the Oregon Coast and wondering if living on the Oregon Coast is a fit for you and your family?

How do you find the best Oregon Coast town for you? Here are the top things to consider:

1) Proximity to the airport: Depending on where you land (pun intended) on the Oregon Coast, you could find yourself pretty far from air travel access. Here’s the easiest breakdown to consider:

-The Northern third of the Oregon Coast is closest to PDX – Oregon’s largest airport located in Portland.

-The Middle third of the Oregon Coast is closet to the Eugene Airport, which offers plenty of regional options. This region is also not prohibitively far from PDX in many cases.

-The Southern third of the Oregon Coast is certainly the most remote. This region is closest to the airport in North Bend, Oregon, which has fewer options and only a couple of direct flights.

2) Population: The number of people who live in or visit your town makes a big difference on day-to-day life. Searching for a bustling community? A private getaway? Love annual events and tourists? Take a look at the population of a given area to get a glimpse into what living in that area is going to truly be like.

3) Amenities: What are you are looking to participate in and regularly access in an area? Take a look at things like beach access, parks, boardwalks, as well as monthly and annual events like farmer’s markets, festivals, and more.

4) Local Commerce (Indoor Stuff): Shops, galleries, hospitality, food & beverage, museums, research facilities – all things to consider when it comes to what you’re searching for. For example, some towns may have more to offer for kids than others (and some may have more to offer adults than others). Run some Yelp and Google searches to see what a town is all about.

5) Landscape: Since the Oregon Coast offers a wide range of landscapes, from mountains to valleys, and everything in between, be sure to identify what type of environment you want to surround yourself with. The activities you love to participate in can also be dictated by what a particular town or region can offer.

6) Activities: Fishing, hiking, golf, sand dune activities, beach activities, photography, surfing, kayaking? The place you decide may be great for one thing but not another or visa versa. Pay close attention to what a town and region of the Oregon Coast has to offer that specifically suits your hobbies and lifestyle.
